The sailing bug bit Mike George early and hard. He started as a kid, racing Sabots in King Harbor's junior sailing program. Since then, every step of his career has revolved around boating and sailing. Now, as founder and President of MG Marine, Inc., his lifelong passion has reached its fruition in a thriving boatbuilding business.

A talented young racer, Mike became sought after to promote various fleets/boats after his unprecedented wins in the highly competitive Cal 20 fleet. In 1979, Paul Yates approached Mike to help develop the Merit 25, and he remained at Merit Marine from hull number 5 to hull number 300. Mike was very successful in promoting the Merit 25, winning several class titles, and notably 1st place at the 1980 MORC International Championships.

Mike left Merit Marine in 1982 to join Kenyon Spars under the direction of Ben Hall. From there, Mike went to work for WD Schock Corporation in their purchasing department. He then formed his first business, and from a small shop in San Pedro, CA began rigging sailboats for racing.

As Mike's expertise grew, word about his industry knowledge spread. Soon enough, Hollywood came knocking. Directors and producers hired Mike to help them take their movies, television shows and commercials on the water. (Anyone remember Baywatch?) Mike continues to support the film industry with production equipment and creative consulting.9Lives

When Mike married Denise Louiso, an accomplished sailor with her own long list of marine industry credits, they decided to form MG Marine Inc. Two years later, big things are in the works. The Georges have taken their passion for a small one-design boat called a Martin 242 and turned it into a business venture.

Martins have long been out of production despite strong -- and growing – support for the fleet, so MG Marine Inc. has reconstructed the boat's molds to begin manufacturing them again. The founders have joined forces with Jim Durden, the original US promoter of the Martin 242 and still its strongest advocate. The original designer, Don Martin, has also been a huge help throughout this two-year project.
